LEARN AT HOME WITH LIVE TEACHING AND LIVE Q&A!

WHAT IS A TELESEMINAR?
Teleseminars are classes held over the telephone. Teleseminars allow you to learn from home, and I am happy to share my knowledge and insights with you through the mediums of telephone and Internet. The students/participants call a phone number that is a bridgeline. The classes are live and interactive. Participants can ask questions and share ideas.

Before I offered teleseminars I participated in them. I was surprised and excited. They are a very comfortable way to learn. It is just like any phone conversation with a friend - it's live and it's interactive. Technology can be fun and very helpful. It is also amazing to develop an adult learning community with people from all over the country.

The beauty of a teleseminar is you can be curled up on your sofa or sitting at your kitchen table or walking around while you are learning. You can ask questions without worrying about blushing or everyone looking at you.

If you are shy in groups, you may find it very easy to ask questions and share insights during a teleseminar as no one will be looking at you. Everyone is listening, not looking.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND LISTEN TO AN AUDIO FILE

When you participate in a Teleseminar you will receive an email the following day with a link to the recording of the call. You can download the file to your computer.

If you wish to play the audio on an mp3 player make sure to download the file to your computer. You may need to right click (PC) or option click (Mac) on the link to save the file to your hard disk.

If you donŐt already have an .mp3 player on your computer, such as Windows Media player or iTunes, you can download for free a copy of iTunes at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/. You can also visit http://www.tucows.com and find other MP3 players.

NEVER TAKEN A TELESEMINAR BEFORE? IT IS VERY SIMPLE.

  1. Make sure the room you are in for the call is as quiet as possible. Background noise makes it very difficult for everyone to hear the call.
  2. Call in 60 seconds BEFORE the class is due to start, to ensure that you are there on time, so we can begin promptly.
  3. Have a pen and paper handy for taking notes.
  4. If you have a headset compatible telephone, USE the headset. It will be much more comfortable. Remember, the call is ONE HOUR.
  5. Remember, you will be charged by your telephone company for the long distance rates to call in. If you are not on a good long distance plan, we suggest you find one of the many available calling card - often they are very cost effective, especially if you're not calling from your own phone.
  6. When you register for a teleconference, you'll be given the date, time, phone number and password to participate. Be sure to write this information on your calendar so you don't forget. As a backup, I'll also send you a confirmation email the day before your scheduled teleconference. (But please don't rely on this email. Write the information down as soon as you register).
  7. From the comfort of your own home or office, call the phone number at the scheduled date and time of the teleconference, and when prompted, enter your passcode.
  8. You'll immediately be connected "live" with myself, and the other participants for your teleconference.
Frequently Asked Questions

Is this just lecture, or can I ask questions?
Every 10-15 minutes the host will ask for questions about what was just covered. Most sessions will allow 5-10 minutes at the end for general questions.

How do I know I've called the right number?
You'll call in shortly before the session is set to begin. The host will ask you your name when you call in. (Others in the room will hear a short beep to let them know someone has arrived.) If you are the first one in the room, you'll just wait a minute or two until someone else arrives.

What if I'll be a little late for the call?
If you dial in late, we may not ask you to introduce yourself, as it would interrupt the presenter. If you're really late, call in anyway.

Will I be given a toll free number to call?
No. We will be using different numbers for different teleseminars. You are responsible for paying for the call, which will appear on your long distance phone bill as a regular long distance call. No other charges are tacked on to the call, just whatever your long distance company charges you.

Can I talk to other participants during the call?
This learning medium is designed to be instructor-focused, so you should plan on interacting with the host and/or Guest Expert, not with other participants. If other people you know are on the call, please refrain from exchanges like "Hi Jane! I haven't talked to you in a while. How's the weather in San Francisco?" This just bogs down the call. The bridge line we are using allows us to mute everyone except the presenter, which we do except during the Q & A period. We also encourage everyone to mute their own phone unless they are asking a question. The less interfering sound on the line, the better everyone can hear.

I have call waiting. What if I get a call during the teleseminar?
If you have call waiting, please disable it before calling in by dialing *70 and waiting for the dial tone.
